Hello! I’m Nathan Estrela, and I’m a woodworker and finish carpenter from Rhode Island. I live on a homestead in Burrillville with my longtime girlfriend, two Golden retrievers, and an ever-growing flock of chickens and ducks.
I learned the basics of construction at a young age, helping my father to build our family home when I was just a teenager. I got my first construction job at age 18, where I helped to build and renovate luxury homes in Boston, Providence, and South County. While working, I quickly discovered a love for finish carpentry. To me, there’s nothing quite as satisfying as transforming a house into a beautiful home by adding high-end finishing touches like crown molding, custom built-ins, and of course, quality furniture and decor.
After purchasing my own home in 2021, I noticed how hard it was to find high-quality furniture. So many of the pieces we bought were crafted with MDF or particleboard and started to break down after just a few years. To avoid wasting money on these kinds of mass-market “disposable” pieces, I decided to put my construction skills to use and began making custom furniture pieces for our living space. Soon after, I decided to start Burl & Feather, selling hand-crafted, heirloom-quality furniture that’s made using locally source solid hardwoods.
